The Marching Tiger “Band of Distinction” (B.O.D.)
The B.O.D. Marching Band is comprised of both Music and Non-Music majors which include selected musicians and auxiliary. Membership is open to all students at Benedict College and selected based on the completion of a successful audition. Any currently enrolled students that wish to join the band program may audition during the Spring Band Camp that is held in April of each year.
The Benedict College Band of Distinction (B.O.D.) performs at all home football games, selected away football games, parades, band exhibitions/competitions and any other functions deemed necessary by upper level administration (President, Vice President, etc.) or the Director of Bands.
Students may also audition for the following positions:
Color Guard (Divine Silk)
Dance (Sweet Sensation)
The Benedict College Instrumental Ensemble is an ensemble designed to allow student musicians the opportunity to continue performing after the completion of the Marching Band season. This group will provide musical entertainment at convocations, commencement ceremonies, spring concert and any other performances requested by senior administration or the Director of Bands. The musical literature for this ensemble will focus primarily on classical music and will allow musicians to further develop their skill set on their instrument. This ensemble is comprised of ALL student-musicians that receive a band award during the spring semester. Members in the Instrumental Ensemble (Concert Band) are required to enroll in the Instrumental Ensemble class which holds 1 credit hour. This class will meet twice a week during the fall and spring semester and schedule will be set by the Director of Bands.
NOTE: All percussion scholarship recipients must sign-up for Percussion Ensemble.
The Benedict College Jazz Ensemble is an ensemble that is designed for students who possess some improvisational skills in Jazz and have an interest in learning this genre. This group will provide musical entertainment at institutional and community events, spring concert and any other performances requested by senior administration or the Director of Bands. Members will be appointed by the Director of Bands and by audition. Swing, Modern, Fusion & Symphonic Jazz are some of the forms of jazz music that this ensemble will focus on. This class will meet twice a week during the spring semester and schedule will be set by the Director of Bands.
Brass and Woodwind
The Benedict College Brass Ensemble (113B-414B) and Woodwind (113W-414W) will consists of wind instrumentalists, within their respective family, who will perform in special recitals and “high profile” performances that require advanced musicianship to accompany choirs, symphonies, chamber orchestras and etc.
